And here it is!!!
I have installed the RC1 of Ubuntu 8.04 on my work laptop. It rocks! It is just... perfect!!
I have been using linux on the servers for more than a decade, and linux on my desktops for 5-6 years. However it was in late 2004 that I switched to a totally linux desktop configuration. I can tell you for sure that it wasn't an easy ride, but the result is something that no windows or mac users can really understand.
The subject of artificial intelligence (AI) is one of my favorites. I find it so interesting, not because of the much debated argument of whether an AI can be created, but because of the many misconceptions and blatant inaccuracies most of the people believe about AI. It is a controversial subject with many ties to Science, Philosophy and Psychology, and it is "doomed" to attract further attention at an exponential rate with the advances in information technology.
While I am using Linux distros for my desktop for some time now (more than 3 years), I still have one or two Windows machines around. The burden of keeping these machines up to date is significally augmented by the addition of all the "chores" I (don't want but have to) do for friends wanting "a good antivirus", "a fresh install" or "a good and free video converter". So the need arises to keep a tab on the windows world of freeware and shareware utilities.
While I have recently (November 2007) bought a Wii, I am always looking at the bundles/offerings for PS3 and Xbox360 systems. Wii is great for the group (when we manage to gather) and its kiddy games are a nice break from the gaming standards of the PC. However, I get tempted from the "dark side" of PS3 and Xbox 360, with all the new "more demanding" game titles that appear constantly and will probably never be ported to the PC platform, along with the fact that I am growing tired of rebuilding my PC every once in a while.
